I had not planned to do stream-of-consciousness writing here. I was going to do thoughtful, laid out posts that fit into specific categories.
And then…(gestures broadly)…
(Will “gestures broadly” become synonymous with the pandemic? Before this year it was meant to be any catastrophe or wrench in plans. But I’m not sure I will hear those words ever again and not have my mind jump to 2020.)
I have made it a goal in December to write every day. In the past, I have given myself the flexibility to say that can mean writing for my business, brainstorming social media, or journaling.
But when I say I want to write, those are not the things I want to do. They are just the things that get in the way.
As we head into December, the health of my family and business are good. We have taken medical guidance seriously and stayed as safe as a possible while still running a brick and mortar store.
Our online store launched in April, full of bugs and missing info. While we have worked on it sporadically during this time, it is not much better. Juggling the real and the online is hard and the balls that get dropped are the ones not staring at you directly across your cash register.
But still, online sales have picked up. Many loyal customers trust we carry good products are not phased by the lack of descriptions or 360 degree images. We are incredibly lucky that we have been around long enough (6 years) to cultivate good relationships and trust with our community.
This is not a stopping point, but I don’t see one coming so I will make this work. Just as with everything else this year, I want to give myself a little grace and comfort in the knowledge that while it might not be perfect, it’s something and better than nothing.
