2 Years & Change

If you are lucky/privileged to have health insurance, you probably have had an annual physical and know mental health is covered. 2 years ago, I was depressed due to reasons beyond my control and knew I suffered from seasonal depression as well.

I ticked the hard boxes and had the hard conversation. I was not in a desperate place yet, but knew by February I wouldn’t ask for help.

I went on a low-dose of an anti-depressant. It wasn’t a miracle, but it got me through. And allowed me time and space to create my own.

Today was another physical. And I was able to tell my Dr honestly that I felt great. No issues. No concerns. Obviously life is difficult and tough, but it no longer sends me spiraling.

Medication alone wasn’t the be-all-end-all answer for me. But it gave me time & space to find other tools.

I share this to help end stigma of mental illness and let you know that things can get better.
